This tutorial will show you how to create a beautiful text effect using cookie texture and layer styles. The method is very simple and will not take more than 30 minutes.
Step 1. Create a new document sized 2560×1440 pixels. Double click on the background layer to make it editable. Then go to menu Layer – Layer Style – Gradient Overlay (Layer> Layer Style> Gradient Overlay). Use colors # fdebc2 and # f7efe0, radial style, and make sure that the center is lighter than the edges.
Step 2. Choose a tool Horizontal text (Horizontal Type Tool) (T), select the font – “Cooper Std Black” and write something on the canvas. We use this font because it is bold and has rounded edges.
Step 3. Now you need to find the texture of the cookie. I used this one. Cover the text with textures and merge all the texture layers into a group (select the layers in the layers palette and press Ctrl + G).
Step 4. Select the text layer. To do this, hold down Ctrl, Left-click on the icon of the text layer in the layers palette. Then select a group with textures (just click on it) and go to the menu Layer – Mask Layer – Show Selection (Layer> Layer Mask> Reveal Selection).
Step 5. Select a mask and go to the menu. Filter – Strokes – Airbrush (Filter> Brush Strokes> Sprayed Strokes). Use the settings shown below.
Step 6. Then go to menu Filter – Blur – Blur Gaussian (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur). Enter a radius value of 2 pixels. This value may be different. It all depends on the font you choose and its size.
Step 7. We continue to work on the same layer mask. Go to menu Image – Corrections – Levels (Image> Adjustments> Levels). Set the values to 100, 1.00, 150. The idea is to fix the blurred edges by removing the gray color. At first we made the edges uneven, but the effect was too strong. Then we applied a blur to them, and with the help of a correction through Levels, we again made them clear.
Step 8. You should have images like the one below. A big plus to masking a group of layers is that the layers inside the group remain intact and we can experiment with them.
Step 9. Select the group mask (hold down Ctrl, left-click on the group mask icon), then create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and fill it with any color. Go to menu Layer – Layer Style – Blending Options (Layer> Layer Style> Blending Options) and set the value Fillings (Fill Opacity) – 0%.
Step 10. In the same window, select the Inner Shadow style and configure as shown below. Mode – Linear dimmer.
Step 11. Then apply the style Inner glow. Mode – Overlap.
Step 12. Style Shadow. Mode – Dimming basis.
Step 13. The result with layer styles is shown below:
Step 14. Disable style Casting a shadow (Drop Shadow) and select a layer with styles and a group with textures. Make a copy of them (transfer to the icon for creating a new layer in the lower part of the layers palette) and merge the copies into one layer (Ctrl + E). Set the blending mode of this layer to Overlay.
Step 15. As you can see, it was not so difficult to create text with a cookie texture. Everything consisted in working with the mask and layer styles.
Conclusion You can add more letters, change the slope of some of them to create more realism. Also, do not forget that for small letters the values of the layer style parameters will be different. I got a good alphabet.
