Materials for the lesson:
Step 1. Create a new document (Ctrl + N) with a size of 800×600 pixels. Choose a tool Gradient (Gradient Tool) (G) and configure it like this: Style – Radial (Radial), color – from # f8f8f8 to # e0e0e0. Make a canvas fill:
Step 2. Open the photo of the tree bark in Photoshop and tool Move (Move Tool) (V) drag it to the main document.
Go to menu Layer – New correctivelayer – Hue / Saturation (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation): Lower Saturation (Saturation) to -100. Then go to menu Layer – Create clipping mask (Layer – Create Clipping Mask). The clipping mask will cause the effect of the adjustment layer to be applied only to the layer with the bark.
Select a layer with bark and lower it. Opacity (Opacity) up to 30%. Install Blend mode (Blending Mode) – Overlap (Overlay).
Step 3. Import abstract brushes loaded at the beginning of the lesson. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and name it “brush marks 1”. Using an abstract brush, paint the layer in black.
Install Blend mode (Blending Mode) – Overlap (Overlay) and Opacity (Opacity) – 80%.
Step 4. Create a few more layers, which you paint with a black abstract brush. And a few layers, painted with a white brush. The idea is to lay the background out of several layers.
Step 5. Tool Horizontal text (Horizontal Type Tool) (T) write the text in the center of the canvas. The font is not important, as long as it is bold.
Step 6. Open the photo of the branch and extract several branches in the main document in any way. Both branches must be on separate layers.
Step 7. Place the part of the tree under the letter “P” on the left side of the canvas with the tool Move (Move Tool) (V).
Now you need to stylize part of the tree. We will apply the style Color overlay (Color Overlay) and add adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) (for which you want to create a clipping mask).
Double click on the layer with part of the tree to open the style window and apply the style Color overlay (Color Overlay):
Mode (Blend Mode): Normal (Normal)
Colour (Color): # 000000
Opacity (Opacity): 65%
Click OK and go to menu. Layer – New correctivelayer – Colortone / saturation (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation): Lower Saturation (Hue) to -100.
Step 8. Now we will wind branches around the letters. To do this, we need Puppet Warp mode. Arrange the branch on the letter “D” and go to the menu Editing – Puppet Warp (Edit – Puppet Warp Tool). Modify the branch as shown below:
Step 9. Your image will look like this after deformation. This way you need to twist each letter branch. Use the same style for each branch. Color overlay (Color Overlay) and customization Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation), as for the first layer with a part of the tree.
If you hide the text layer, you get the following result:
Step 10. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and name it “brush marks over letters”. Select an abstract brush and paint the letters. It is necessary to create the effect of worn edges.
Step 11. When painting with a brush, change the angle value. It can be configured in the palette of brushes (F5). This is necessary in order to draw a pattern at the correct angle with respect to the letter.
Step 12. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and name it “highlights”. Make a few fillings with a radial gradient in color from white to transparent. Fillings must be on letters. Install Blend mode (Blending mode) of this layer – Overlap (Overlay) and Opacity (Opacity) – 40%.
Step 13. Open the photo of the crow and extract it into the main document. Place on one of the letters and apply the style Color overlay (Color Overlay):
Step 14. Go to menu Layer – New adjustment layer – Levels (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Levels): 0 / 1.08 / 247.
