Introduction
When you work on projects like this, make sure that you have all the necessary high-quality images prepared in advance. You can take photos that I used. You will also need a graphics tablet, but this is optional.

Process of creation
I started everything with a small sketch of a future composition. After that, I began searching for suitable images and found a photo of a charming girl that you see below. Then the remaining elements were found.

Step 1. We create a new document (CTRL + N) with a size of 2000x2000px and allow 300dpi. Fill it with a light blue color # EEF3F6.

Step 2. Open the photo Bird 1. Select the black area around the bird with the tool. Magic wand tool (Magic wand) (W).

Then press CTRL + SHIFT + I to invert the selection. Then click on the button Refine edge (Advanced edges) and in the appeared window we set the parameters, as below on the screenshot:

Next, CTRL + SHIFT + J, to copy the selection to a new layer, right-click on it and select Convert To Smart Object (Convert to smart object).

Drag the bird tool Move Tool (Move) (V) on the working paper. Flip the image Edit – Transform – Flip Horizontal (Editing – Transformation – Rotate horizontally). Then CTRL + T and increase the bird to 75%.

Step 3. Now let’s work on the girl. Activate Pen tool (Pen) (P), select the head, then press CTRL + ENTER to convert the path to the selection. We press W, then Refine edges (Advanced Edge) and use the settings we used for the bird. Then CTRL + SHIFT + J and convert the new layer into a smart object.

Drag the head to the working paper and place the layer above the layer with the bird. Using Free transform (Free transform) (CTRL + T), adjust the size and location.

Step 4. Let’s make our eyes bigger. Using Lasso Tool (Lasso) (L) with feather (shading) 10px, to soften the edges, select the left eye. Press CTRL + J to copy the eye to the new layer.

We perform the same procedure with the right eye.

Select the layer with the left eye. We press CTRL + T and turn the eye. Do the same with the right eye.

Create a mask for the right eye by clicking on the button. Add layer mask (Add layer mask) at the bottom of the layers panel. Using a large soft black brush, paint around the eye to hide unwanted areas. Do the same with the left eye.

We get:

Step 5. Select the layer with the head and turn Filter – Liquify (Filter – Plastic). We use Forward warp (Distortion) with a brush 200px. A little change the shape of the face, increase the distance between the eyes, raise the nose and mouth. Click the OK button to apply the changes.

Step 6. Create a new layer (SHIFT + CTRL + N) and place it above the head layer. Holding the key Alt, Click between layers to create a clipping mask.

Now we will work brush . Adjust the parameters of stiffness, size and opacity, take the color from the photo so that the effect is smoother. I used a standard brush from the Photoshop set with the following parameters:

Choose Brush tool (Brush) (B), set the opacity to 20%, hardness to 0%, size 70px. Hold down the key I and select the desired color, then release the key and Brush re-activated. I chose a bright pink color and painted over my face and neck, the area of my eyes, mouth and nostrils.

Add pink on cheeks and using brushes 7px slightly blur the mouth. For each color we create a new layer and for each layer we create a clipping mask (CTRL + SHIFT + G).

Step 7. Now using a big soft brush with an opacity of 20%, on a new layer in pink color we draw in the cheeks, nose and around the eyes. Set the layer blending mode to Overlay (Overlap).

Step 8. Next, add highlights. Use an almost transparent brush of a very light pink color and emphasize the bright areas of the face, then paint a little white brush on the teeth and whites of the eyes.

Step 9. Now using a little soft brush with an opacity of 20% light blue, we sketch the iris of both eyes. Set the blending mode to Overlay (Overlap) and opacity 60%.

Step 10. Choose brush 2px in size, opacity (100%) and hardness (hardness) 100%. Dark brown paint draw eyelashes. In addition, you can add a shadow on the eyes using the same color and a large soft brush with 10% opacity.

Step 11. I think she really needs eyebrows! Open the image Boy. Using Lasso Tool (Lasso) (L) with fetaher (feather) 5px, select the right eyebrow, convert it into a smart object, then move it to the working document and place it as shown below. We do the same with the left eyebrow. Group the layers (select both layers and press CTRL + G).

Create a layer mask for the layer with the right eyebrow. A large soft black brush hides the extra area around the eyebrow. Do the same with the left.

Add an adjustment layer Levels (Levels) for the right brow by clicking on the button Create new fill or adjustment layer (Create a new fill or adjustment layer) at the bottom of the layers panel, or by opening a special panel Window – Adjustments (Window – Correction). Adjust the parameters as shown below. On the panel Adjustments (Correction) click on the button that is shown below to create a clipping mask for the adjustment layer. We perform the same actions with a different eyebrow.

Create a new layer and, using a 2px brush with an opacity of 20%, draw hairs on the eyebrows.

Step 12. We have finished making a marafet on the face, now let’s move on to the hair. All we need is to draw more hair, add volume to it, while repeating their direction and structure. Use the same brushes as at the beginning of the lesson. We start to draw with a big soft brush with an opacity of 20-30%. Color choose from a photo. As you move, reduce the size of the brush. With each new color we draw on a new layer, so that if you do something wrong, then everything will be easier to fix. You should get something like this:

I do not really like the shape of the bangs, so I decided to change it. Take brush 15px in size with an opacity of 80% and a hardness (hardness) of 80% and starting to draw.

Now, using a small 4-6px brush, draw the tips of the bangs.

Step 13. Now let’s switch to the birds. Select the bird layer and create several adjustment layers:
one. Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Levels (Layer – New adjustment layer – Levels).
2 Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation).
3. On the panel Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) from the drop-down menu, select the yellow color.
four. Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Levels (Layer – New adjustment layer – Levels).
Then select the bird layer and all adjustment layers and convert them into a smart object.

Step 14. Open the image Bird 2.
Using Magic wand tool (Magic wand) (W), select the background around the bird. Then press CTRL + SHIFT + I to invert the selection.
Click on the button Refine edge (Advanced Edges) and change the settings as shown below. Then CTRL + SHIFT + J to copy the bird to a new layer and convert it into a smart object.

We have a bird on the working paper.

Create layer mask for the first bird layer. Take a big hard brush and remove the excess.

Now we do the same for the second bird, keeping the paws.

Step 15. Open the image Bird 3. Cut the tail and move it to the working document.

Step 16. Create a new layer above the layer with the body of the bird, fill the bird’s wing area with blue and reduce the opacity to 20%.

Now we draw the feathers by the same method we used to draw the hair. Draw short strokes to emphasize the structure of the feathers.

Select the layers with the body of the bird, legs and tail and convert them into a smart object.

Step 17. Create a new layer above the layer with the body of the bird, fill the body area with brown and reduce the opacity to 20%.

Draw the feathers again in the manner described above. Add a dark brown foot contour.

We continue to work on the snag.

Create a new layer, fill the tail area with blue and set the blending mode to Soft light (Soft light). We continue to draw.

Our composition should look like this:

Step 18. Open the image Flowers.
Using Pen tool (Feather) (P), select two flowers. Press CTRL + ENTER to convert the path to the selection. We press W, then Refine edge (Advanced Edges) and use the parameters you see below. Then CTRL + SHIFT + J and convert the new layer into a smart object.

Arrange the flowers on the working paper.

Create a new layer under the layer with colors, set the blend mode to Multiply (Multiplication). Using a hard brush with an opacity of 20%, draw the shadows.

Fill the flowers with purple as shown below and set the blending mode to Soft light (Soft light).

Pay attention to the petals: white for light areas and dark purple for the shadows.

Duplicate the group with flowers and place a copy under the girl’s head layer. The layer with shadows is deleted.

Draw a new shadow.

Step 19. Open the image Pen 1.
Using Magic wand tool (Magic Wand) (W), select the white background around the pen. Then click CTRL + SHIFT + I, to invert the selection.
Then Refine edge (Advanced edges) and set the parameters, as in the screenshot below. Next CTRL + SHIFT + J to copy the selection to a new layer and convert it into a smart object.

Position the pen as shown below.

Press CTRL + T, then right-click on the working canvas and select from the drop-down menu Warp (Deformation). Transform the pen as shown below.

Create an adjustment layer Levels (Levels).

Double click on the layer to open the window Layer style (Layer style). Choose Color overlay (Overlapping color).

Then apply Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur) with a radius of 1px.

Step 20. Open the second pen and transfer to the working paper in the same way as the first pen. We deform it and do the following: select the layer with the first pen, click on it with the right mouse button and select Copy Layer Style (Copy layer style). Then click the right mouse button on the layer with the second pen and select Paste Layer Style (Paste layer style). Next, select the adjustment layer Levels (Levels) above the layer with the first pen, hold ALT, move it over the layer with the second pen (black and white arrows appear during the move, which means that you are duplicating the layer).

Select the second feather layer and the adjustment layer Levels (Levels) and convert them to a smart object. Then duplicate it and place it as shown below. Apply Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur) with a radius of 2.5px and reduce the opacity of the layer to 80%.

Step 21 Open the image with the third pen. We need a smaller feather. Since it is very fluffy, it will be a little more difficult to separate it from the background. To do this, go to the panel Channels (Channels).

We select and duplicate the channel Blue (Blue). Press CTRL + L to bring up the window. Levels (Levels).

Hold CTRL and click on the duplicate of the blue channel. Press CTRL + SHIFT + I to invert the selection.

Go back to the layers panel and press CTRL + SHIFT + J to copy the selection to the new layer. Duplicate this layer, then select both layers and merge together (CTRL + E).

Using Lasso Tool (Lasso) (L), select the small feather and cut it onto a new layer. Then go Layer – Matting – Defringe (Layer – Edge Processing – Eliminate Border), in the opened dialog box, enter 1 and click OK. Using this procedure, we removed the unnecessary hazy halo around the pen and made the incision clearer. Convert this layer to a smart object.

Step 22 Place the pen on the working paper and add Levels.

Now select the adjustment layer Photo filter (Photo filter) so that the color of the feather is more like the color of bird feathers.

Blur a little using Gaussian blur (Gaussian blur).

Step 23 And the last thing we add is beautiful rose petals. Using Pen tool (Pen) (P), select three petals, press CTRL + ENTER to convert the path to the selection.

Click W, then Refine Edge (Advanced Edge). Then CTRL + SHIFT + J, use Lasso Tool (Lasso) (L) to select each petal and cut them onto a new layer. Convert each layer into a smart object.

Arrange the petals on the working paper. Duplicate, adjust the location and size.

Blur them a little using Gaussian blur (Blur according to Gauss) with different radius. After that, select all the petals and convert to a smart object.

Add an adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation).

Step 24 We are almost done, add the final touches. Draw a few light pink and purple dots around the bird.

We draw white dots on the face, body and colors to create the effect of brilliance and radiance. You can add white dots in other places.

Finally, let’s draw freckles. We work on a new layer and change the blending mode to Multiply (Multiplication).

Step 25. Last step! Color correction is my favorite part in any project. Merge all layers except the background, and add adjustment layers, as shown below. Add a Gradient Map (Gradient Map) with colors # ffcdb2 / # fdc084 / # 6f022b. Set the blending mode to Color (Color) and opacity (opacity) 20%.

Another layer Gradient map (Gradient Map) with colors: # f1ffb2 / # ff5571 / # 000b2f. Set the blending mode to Multiply (Multiplication) and opacity 20%.

Add Color balance (Color balance). Black brush draw on the layer mask in the face, so that the effect of the layer does not apply to the face.

Add Photo filter (Photo filter) Sepia (Sepia).

Add the last Gradient Map layer with the colors: # ffd8c0 / ## eb0042. Set the blending mode to Lighten (light) and opacity (opacity) 20%.

Final image
You may not believe it, but we are done! You can add more adjustment layers for other shades. Personally, I really like the retro effect that we got. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
