In this tutorial we will draw a scarf and add a drawing effect to the finished image of the umbrella.
You can find in the internet any suitable photo with the image of an umbrella or use this image.
I increased the size of the canvas to about 800x800pix (Image-Сanvas Size …).
The size of the work depends on the size of the source code and on what you will then do with this picture: just a drawing, wallpaper, highly artistic work of good quality)))) and why not ????
Cut the object (umbrella) in any way convenient for you.
Add a new white layer.
Using Levels (Image-Adjustments-Levels … or adjustment layer Levels …) reduce the color and contrast of the image – we move the central slider to the left.
The size of the settings is suitable for my version of work, for other images, select other values.
Getting started with using the Dimmer (Burn Tool) and clarifier (Dodge Tool) – one.
I used the following settings: Range –Midtones,Exposure: 5-20%.
Create a new layer – clipping mask (for an umbrella layer) – hold the RMB on the layer in the toolbar, in the drop-down menu select Create clipping mask – Create Clipping Mask. Fill it with white, set Opacity (Opacity) 35%. And with the help of a layer mask we draw reflections on an umbrella – 2. Add more shadows – Dimmer.
And again the shadows inside the umbrella –3.
Now add two layers with clipping masks. One of them is called Shine, the other is Shadow.
Opacity (Opacity) these layers are set approximately 40%.
On the layer Shine paint in white on the layer Shadow – color# a32556.
Soft brush (Hardness – 0), opacity (Opacity) near thirty%.
And again a new layer with clipping mask. Fine, stiff brush, opacity (Opacity) about thirty%, emphasize the folds. You can apply a Gaussian blur filter to this layer (Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur) radius 1.5pix.
All the resulting layers (except for the background of course) can be combined into a group. And you can immediately merge together.
I did not like the “grayness” of the resulting image – some dirty colors. And slightly corrected the situation with the help of curves (Image-Adjustments-Curves …)
We continue …
Make a copy of the umbrella (we press Alt and drag the desired layer to another place). Mirror vertically a layer with a copy (Edit-Transform-Flip Vertical) and placed under the main layer of the umbrella.
Using a layer mask (at the bottom of the layers panel the button – Add layer mask – Add layer mask) hide part of the reflection.
Opacity (Opacitya) layer Reflection set 75%.
Now with the help of brushes Spray
(you can use your own or attached to the lesson) draw paint that splashes out of an umbrella. Use the Eyedropper tool to determine color. (Eyedropper Tool) from the corresponding area of the umbrella.
Using various Transformation capabilities (Edit-Transform- …) draw paint drops. I did it like this. We wipe the excess (Eraser or layer mask).
Then add volume to the drops using the Dimmer tools. (Burn Tool) and clarifier (Dodge Tool).
You can add a few more drops.
By the way, instead of brushes, you can use a raster clipart of splashing water or paint. Then it will not be necessary to manually create the volume of droplets, but only correctly correct the image by color.
Go back to the layer Reflection.
Let’s make it more interesting with the Distortion filter (Filter-Distort-Displace).
Examples of working with this filter have already been told in the lessons on our site, so I will briefly outline the algorithm of actions.
First we need a brush with the image of circles on the water (on the site Photoshop-Master there are such brushes for downloading).
Choose a brush and make a black print – one. If the trace is too transparent, copy the layer several times and merge the copies together.
Then place the circles where they should be))) Slightly compress them vertically (Edit-Free Transform) – 2.
Now we make the displacement map. Remove the visibility of all layers and save the file in the format ___. Psd – 3. Before saving, I framed the document by the size of the circles of water.
Now go to the menu Distortion filter (Filter-Distort-Displace) and set the values of the distortion vertically and horizontally (Vertical Horizontal Scale) – 15.
In the window that opens, select the file – the displacement map, which we saved earlier.
Filter settings I give for example. Experiment and try to find your settings and get your result.
This is what happens (one):
You can leave came down noticeable circles of water.
Clicking on the layer icon with circles of water + Crt – we get the selection of circles. And on the new layer fill in blue. Select the opacity and blending mode to your liking.
layer Reflection: Opacity – 75%, Multiplication
layer Circles: Opacity – 10%, Blackout Basics
layer Circles copy: Opacity – 20%, Multiplication – 2.
At this stage, I slightly brightened up the drops of paint (using the Curves – Curves and masks of this layer) and corrected their location using the Plastic filter (Filter-Liquify …).
You can stop here, and you can add some more accessory … for example scarf.
Let’s start by drawing a sketch.
You can draw the same scarf or realize your fantasy.
First, the main color, then the shadows and light.
You draw the base of the scarf as you like: or with the help of a pen (Pen Tool) or immediately Brush (Brush Tool).
It is convenient to draw shadows and light on different layers – clipping masks.
First we give volume to the subject, then we distribute the shadows and the light.
For Shadows, I used the Multiply blend mode (Multiply).
We draw with soft brushes.
In the process of work, we apply the change in the Opacity of the layers and a slight Gaussian blur (in this case, 1-4pix).
For ease of drawing, you can find a suitable photo for the sample.
Now merge all the layers of the scarf together and work a little with the Finger tool. (Smudge Tool) in Normal (Normala) overlay mode.
Copy the scarf layer.
For the lower layer set Opacity (Opacity) 75%, and for the top 85%.
Add a layer mask to the top layer (button at the bottom of the layers panel – Add Layer mask), invert it (Ctrl +I) and make these areas visible – see screenshot. So we transfer the translucency of the scarf. By the way, if you make a background of a different color, this effect will be noticeable more clearly.
Again we merge the layers of the scarf together and adjust them a little with the help of Levels or Curves – for whom it is more convenient.
You can slightly fluff the tips (Finger tool – Smudge Tool) at the scarf and trim the document (Crop Toop).
And yet, I muffled the colors of the umbrella handle a little and worked a little and with a reflection. Namely: made a copy of the layer Circles copy with overlay mode Multiply, created layer selection Reflection (Ctrl + click on the layer icon Reflection) and added a layer mask on an extra copy of the circle layer Circles copy 2.
By the way, one-color version also looks interesting!
Inspiration and successful implementation of our plans!
