This time we will draw the fur.
In this lesson, I describe my work.
But this is not a step by step instruction, as usual, but TIPS for independent work!
I will say right away – it is more convenient to draw on the tablet.
The members of the forum probably remember my last year’s experience – a drawing of Santa Claus. The fur in this picture I drew with the mouse – the hand is constantly “Lethargic” )))))
What is most important when drawing fur? In my opinion – the right choice of brush.
First you need to decide which one fur you will draw.
The brush, with the help of which the fur is drawn, should bring out several hairs at once – this is faster and more believable.
I created brushes using circles and squares in the 300x300pix document (you can take a smaller file). In this case, the brush is large. Let me remind you how to save the brush: Edit-Define brush … (Edit-Define Brush Preset …)
The screenshot shows two types of brushes and their prints.
The finer the details of the brush and the greater the distance between them, the easier and more fluffy the imprint is.
To see the difference, I advise you to create different brushes and see their prints.
So it is easier to understand exactly what is suitable for your picture.
The creation of the brush does not end there.
You can and even need to play with different settings in the Brushes Palette (Brushes Window, Window-Brushes, F5).
First of all: the size (Size) brushes – the thickness of the hairs should not be too thick, but it should not be greatly reduced, and the fur will turn into a homogeneous mass. It all depends on the size of the document and the size of the object itself.
Secondly: interval (Spacing) it is better to put on a minimum – hairs do not come from pieces.
Thirdly: I advise you to “twist” the brush (change the angle – Angle slope), while revealing interesting fingerprints.
The screenshot shows the prints of the same brush with different angles of rotation. In some cases it is important.
In addition, I used opacity (Opacity) in the range 25-50%. The most transparent values are for dark brushes, the most noticeable ones are for light ones.
To create a more realistic result, when drawing fur, you must use several brushes. And in order not to change the settings each time (it takes a lot of time and discourages the hunt for creativity), brushes with different settings should be saved.
How to do it: first decide what brushes you will use to create fur (their colors, transparency, size …) and save each one individually by opening the tab Tool Preset picker (one) on the Brush tool properties panel. Then you need to press the button Create new Tool Preset (2) and for the convenience of searching the list – assign a name (3).
Now, when changing the brush in the process, you just need to open the tab with the list of saved brushes and select the tool with the necessary settings! Very comfortably!!! )))
Well, now turn to the creation of fur!
We will create fur on the fur coat of the Snow Maiden.
I began to draw fur last, when everything else was ready. So you can immediately see how the furry looks.
To begin with, I used a soft brush of HEAVEN color to paint the base of the fur trim.
When creating the base, you can lower the Opacity (Opacitya) brush.
Immediately after that, I sketched reflexes. Why right away? Because it is more convenient to distribute fur (i.e., you can immediately see which brush to choose). And so that at the end of a lengthy job you don’t have to redo it, for example, if on a dark background the light fur appeared in an incomprehensible way.
I located the reflex layer at the top.
How to start drawing? Better with small details (in this case – a cap, sleeves). It will and sample (you should periodically glance there — the length of the villi, the density of the fur, the distribution of color, etc., so that the different parts of the fur product do not differ from each other) and training, if it is not the first time, we save time spent on a large piece.
So, I started with the caps.
For work it is more convenient to maximize the document, but in real size it is necessary to periodically watch the result.
I used three brushes: white – opacity 50%, gray – opacity 30%, blue – opacity 20%.
I painted each brush on a separate layer and for convenience I called them: light gray gray. On the one hand, time is spent creating layers and moving through the layers in the process of drawing, but on the other hand, it is easy to make corrections and understand the progress of the work. As a result, time is only saved. And redoing … there is nothing worse!
Here I applied another brush setting (see screenshot):
So the fur becomes more fluffy … compare.
The drawing algorithm is simple: I started with light fur, then gray, then blue.
The hair should go a bit beyond the bounds. The basics furs. If necessary Basis You can wipe the eraser.
The arrows indicate the direction of the fur lint.
The distribution of the fur villi in each case is different, this is just an example.
Above the reflex layer I created a layer – Optional fur. There were made final amendments and additions for all parts of the furry.
The shadow of the fur caps also has the right to be)))
Now we draw the fur on the sleeves.
When working, I tried to keep the zoom level of the document constant — it’s more convenient to draw small details the same. As I have already said, when drawing the following fur parts, it is advisable to look at the first version as a sample.
The work plan is the same. Drawing on different layers, as a result, saves time, but makes the document large. Everywhere there are pros and cons)))
It remains to create an edge on the shoulders and on the edge of the coat.
I made clasps on the Snow Maiden fur coat. We must remember that the villi of fur climb into such details.
The arrows in the screenshot show the direction of the fur.
In the screenshots you can hardly see the difference in the process of drawing. Therefore, I do not write instructions, but tips for independent creativity.
That’s what I got in the end.
And now we will try to draw some separate fur object, well, the same hat. Only entirely fur.
To begin with we will be defined with a style and color, we will brush a brush.
I used these colors. But there may be many more, or rather there should be more. But in the framework of the lessons we limit ourselves to this number.
I got 6 brushes with different transparency (the darkest ones are the most imperceptible).
Let’s start by creating The basics caps with a soft brush. To create it, you can lower the Opacity (Opacity), how I told before.
Then I drew fur according to the same plan. First decided on the direction of the fur and forward:
-different colors – on different layers,
-changing the opacity of not only the brushes, but also the layers themselves,
-sometimes adding blurry copies of layers (their opacity is best reduced to a minimum).
And another tip – to change the background color to see the flaws and immediately correct them. For example: we draw on white – periodically we look at black.
Remember the shadows …
As I drew fur on small pompushkas … I drew only one otpushku, and just copied the others))) and transformed as necessary.
Add a shadow from the cap.
I pulled up levels a little more.
I really hope that my advice will come in handy and the “fur” masterpieces will appear from the pen of the computer artists of our site! )))
Wishing you creative inspiration,
